Fowlmead Country Park-Deal

London League Round 13 Wilmington Jan 22th 2011

Well another successful day for the club at the latest round.13 of the London League Cyclocross. 11 riders in total today on a testing and technical course (I fell off 6 times!!!). There were some excellent performances all round and if I had to pick any out it would be Flynn 6th of 34 riders in Under-10, Noah 6th of 30ish riders in Under-12 and George for his best ride of the season in Under-14. Also a special mention to Autumn Charlton for a fantastic ride securing 3rd Girl in the Under 14 race and prize money!!!

Fowlmead Winter MTB series round.3 Jan 15th 2012

Another tremendious turnout from the club for the latest MTB race. In the under 12 race we had some great performances, big well done to the following: Noah (2nd), Elliot (4th), Reef (5th), Flynn (6th), Hannah, Eli, Stan (First race!!), Max, Lance and Bramble.

In the over 12's race there was also a number of yellow jerseys. Great rides from Sophia and Jack (2nd) (Both new 2nd claim riders), Jacob, Jake, Conor, Connor and the 2 old men (Steve and Colin).

Lee Valley Youth CC winter road series Jan 14th 2012

Big well done to Team Thanet as Redbridge today for a very cold start to the road season. Here is a quick summary.
U8 race - Eli scored Thanet's first points of the season with a excellent 3rd place. Max Missile produced an amazing ride for 8th out of 12 starters.
U10 race - Flynn came in a creditable 6th in his first outing in the under 10s out of 15.
U12 race - Well done Noah for a great ride to finish well up in the standings
U14 race - The two Ollie's suffered the dreaded "Hog Hill" 12 times as a tough step up to cat B racing - boys finished strongly with Dickson beating Robinson this time.

London League Round 12 Foots Cray December 27th 2011

A record number of Thanet RC riders at the latest round of cycloX racing. 9 riders in total enjoyed riding off all the Christmas turkey. Well done to Max, Flynn, Eli, Noah, Ollie, Olly, George and Jake today on fine performances. I also stayed on my bike for this first time this session!!!

Fowlmead Winter MTB round.2 Dec 11th 2011 - Fowlmead

Another good turnout from the club with 7 of 17 riders in the under 12 event. Well done to the following: Noah (3rd), Elliot (5th), Beth (8th), Flynn (9th), Eli (15th), Hannah (16th) and Max 17th. Also great effort from our older riders Connor.T, Ollie.R and George for completing the adult event. Well done also to coach Tom on his ride.

Thanet RC Christmas Party and Prize Giving Dec 10th 2011

Well what a year it has been for us all. Great progress made in many areas. But what I'm most pleased about is the growing number of riders of all abilities joining and enjoying our sessions each week. The year certainly finished on a high with our party and prize given at AMF Bowling-Margate. Go-Ride session - December 3rd 2011 - Fowlmead

Double session for some today as 10 riders visited Kent's newest cycling facility at Gravesend (Cyclopark) for an interclub Go-Ride session. Quick rush of 50 miles to Fowlmead for Thanet RC session where Tom took the mountain bikers and Colin the road riders. This is the last session of 2011 and more information to follow soon on our plans for 2012 (Olympic year!!)

London League Round 10 Penshurst November 27th 2011

Well this was more like MTB racing than cycloX on a very tough and technical course that really tested the riders skills. Flynn came 5th, Beth 8th (1st Girl!) and Max 23rd in a field of 35 for the under 10 race. Elliot competed well in the Under 12s and Ollie and George had their own personal tussle in the under 14 event with Ollie just coming out on top.

Go-Ride session - November 26th 2011 - Marlowe

Great to see our newest coach, Tom, in action today with our younger riders. 3 groups today, the others with Richard (Road bikes) and Colin (MTB coaching). Well done to Ollie on the fastest time of the day (all times below) Riders of the week were Stan, Maddi, Bea, Cerys and Olly Dickson. Next week is the last session of the season at Fowlmead.

Turbo racing night - November 24th 2011

9 young riders for tonights turbo session at St Nicholas at Wade village hall. Great social event too with lots of tea and cake. I've attached all the times on the link below. Well done to Chris for recording the best times for both under and over 18's!! Next event is on Wed 7th December at same location.

MTB Winter Warmer Round.1- November 20th 2011

Thanet RC scored a fantastic 1-2-3 (Noah-Flynn-Bea) in today's under 12 event. Also a big well done to our other riders which totalled 7 in a field of 9!!! (Lance, Eli, Max and Ben). We also had 4 under 16 riders taking part in the adult race alongside their coach who can hardly walk now after a fall! Great effort from Conor, Connor, Noah and Flynn.

Go-Ride Session Fowlmead- November 19th 2011

Can't believe this weather for the end of November! Really enjoyed the session today especially with such a good turnout (28 riders!!). Richard took the MTB group and prepared many of the riders for the next days race. Colin was on the track trying to keep up with the riders, the group worked really hard and enjoyed the final series of 3 lap races. London League Round 8 Brighton November 13th 2011

Great to see such a fine turnout from Thanet RC at the Brighton leg of the Cyclo X series. Well done to Flynn, Max, Noah, Eli, Elliot, Ollie and Jake on fine performances. The organisers gave us a special mention to thank us for travelling such a long distance to compete. I even had a go this week - and it was one of the toughest races I've ever done!!! Come on you adult riders, give cycloX a go and support the club.

Go-Ride Session Marlowe - November 12th 2011

It certainly felt like winter today at the session with the darkness coming so early. 26 riders at the Marlowe where we all had lots of fun with our three groups. My group certainly worked hard and all showing major improvements with endurance. Riders of the week were Dan, Stan and Beth.

Thanet RC Family Ride out - November 5th 2011

Well it certainly was an adventure for the Go Ride group today. Everyone that rode deserves a medal as the weather was TERRIBLE. Older riders completed the 28 mile Viking Trail, with our younger riders undertaking the ride from St Nicolas to Westgate and back, much of it in rain and wind. Older riders (and parents) - please remember to bring spare tubes, pumps, etc. on these rides. Thanks to parents and helpers for keeping everyone going and getting them home before nightfall!

Thanet RC vs Fowlmead CC challenge - Oct 29th 2011

Hope you all enjoyed the cycloX fun challenge. Lots of great racing and lots of yellow Thanet tops to the fore. We will think about organising more of these challenges with local clubs in the months ahead.

Fowlmead Night MTB Race - October 21st 2011

Four of our brave riders took part in this "fun" event run in total darkness. A good set of lights were essential as Ollie, George, Elliot and Mark (Elliot's dad) found out. George was the top placed Thanet rider in a highly competitive field.

Go-Ride Session Marlowe - October 22nd 2011

Good numbers again at the Marlowe this week. Main activity included a cycloX / Madison / Interval session - all very ambitious however it worked quite well in the end. Steve and Colin then took separate groups for mixtures of coaching and racing. Riders of the week were Max, Ben, George and Tia. Also welcome to our new rider Autumn this week.

London League Round 6 Fowlmead Oct 16th 2011

Best Thanet RC turnout of the season on a lovely sunny day at Fowlmead. The under 10 race saw 5 of our riders take part with all doing very well on a tough course; Flynn came 4th with Eli, Hannah, Max and Shannon not far behind (results to be confirmed). Max must be the youngest ever rider in this event at 4 years old and came 10th of 14 riders! Elliot, Noah and Archie rode the under 12 event and George and Jake in the under 14's. Well done to you all.

Go-Ride Session Fowlmead - October 15th 2011

A very busy afternoon at Fowlmead precluded some of our track activities, but we still had enjoyable sessions on and off road, the latter group using parts of the cross course destined for the next day's league event (above).

London League Round 5 Reed Farm Oct 9th 2011

Great Thanet turnout again this week in the latest cycloX event. Under 10's race had more than 20 riders with Flynn 4th and Beth 3rd girl and Hannah 4th girl. Elliot put in another strong performance while George even though he missed the start managed to overtake a few in the ultra competitive under14/16 race.

Go-Ride Session Marlowe - October 8th 2011

This week's session featured some grasstrack-style racing for everyone followed by coaching from Colin (more grasstrack and cycle speedway) and Richard (group riding and balance skills for the younger group). Riders of the week were Maddie, Gregory, Tia and Maddie.

Wigmore CC Hill Climb Oct 2nd 2011

Three of our youth members tackled the tough accent of Hollingborne Hill in the annual time trial event. An amazing ride from Sebastian Dickson, coming 7th overall and winning the junior event! We also saw great performances from Jonah Hawkes and Oliver Dickson in their first attempts at the climb.

London League Round 4 Herne Hill Oct 2nd 2011

Another hot day - certainly not cycloX weather - for the latest round at Herne Hill. Great to see the venue looking much improved following the recent resurfacing project. Well done to the Thanet RC riders Flynn, Elliot, George and Ollie for real gutsy rides on a technically demanding course. Also well done to Noah and Jake who are now riding for VC Deal for the cycloX this session. The club are however hoping to join the London league soon so all points will then count.

Go-Ride Session Marlowe - October 1st 2011

Absurdly hot on Saturday and another great turn-out of riders. We had a cycloX warm-up and race followed by sessions with Richard, Steve, Annie and Colin, with coaching in everything from MTB skills to track sprinting techniques.

London League Round 3 Brighton Sept 25th 2011

Some of our riders made the long trip to Brighton for the latest cycloX event. Well done to Noah, Tia and Jake. Jake in his first cycloX event came in 3rd in the under 14's - an amazing ride from this very talented rider.

Crab and Winkle family ride out Sept 24th 2011

Great to see so many of you out on a lovely sunny day riding between Canterbury and Whitstable on the Crab and Winkle Cycle Path. The riders enjoyed an ice cream in Whitstable but enjoyed more the hill climb on the way back into Cowes Wood!!!. Times below.

London CycloX-Round 2 Hog Hill Sept 18th 2011

4 Thanet RC took the long drive and enjoyed a very challenging course at Hog Hill. Flynn took 3rd and Beth 7th in the under 10 event. Noah had a great ride for 8th in the under 12's and Ollie struggled but finished a creditable 11th in the under 14s.

Go-Ride Session Fowlmead - September 17th 2011

This week's session consisted of mountain biking in 2 groups with Richard and Colin, and a road racing masterclass from Steve.  Excellent work from all those concerned as we dodged the showers and braved the winds - particular thanks to all the helpers! If that weren't enough, after that we had road and cyclocross rider development sessions for our racing riders.

London CycloX-Round 1 Fowlmead Sept 11th 2011

Thanet RC scored their first ever victory at this extremely popular event on a great weekend for the club. Flynn came out on top in a sprint finish in the under 10 event. There were also fine performance from the rest of the Thanet RC riders Tia, Ollie.R, Shannon, Noah, Elliot, Beth and Hannah (Check out the muddy riders opposite!!). GHS National TT Final - Loughborough Sept 10th 2011

Thanet RC has a record 3 riders in a National event at the GHS 10 mile TT final. The conditions were really tough but the boys really did well and the club are extremely proud of your achievements.

Go-Ride Session Marlowe - September 10th 2011

Another great turn-out on a humid afternoon. We had two grasstrack ovals for coaching with Richard and Bob. Excellent skills and racing all round. More new riders this week - Stanley, Ben and Gregory (is there anyone left in Stelling Minnis on a Saturday afternoon?!) Riders of the week were Bramble and Jake.
